Our Purpose

To achieve greater public awareness, knowledge and understanding of the cultural heritage of Chicago's south and southwest suburban region and it's communities. The South Suburban Heritage Association considers  the region's history and culture important for the understanding of its past, for improving its business and economic climate, for enrichment of the region's quality of life and for promotion of a more positive image beyond the boudaries of the region.

What We Do

Host conferences and workshops devoted to the region's cultural and historical heritage. Locate and identify resources related to the history and culture of the region, making these resources known and available to its membership and the general public. Promote and strengthen those organizations that are part of its membership. Provide educational opportunities such as workshops, seminars and other activities related to its goals. Inform its membership and other interested groups regarding the activities and projects of its membership.

What's New?

Summer's over.  The board has met again to consider a topic for a 2008 conference.

  • We're working on a general theme of history education in the southern suburbs.
  • We'd like to survey the ways various schools in the area have approached the subject and how they have made use of the knowledge and resources of local heritage organizations.
  • We're still working on a date and venue so please CONTACT US with any suggestions.
  • What's new with you?
